STATEMENT OF FAITH
The Declaration of Faith of The 4th Commandment International Ministries (D4th.org) details their essential beliefs. As stated in Amos 3: 3, "Can two people walk together without remembering the address?" We fully recognize outside these essential beliefs that sincere Christians may have a legitimate disagreement, and show great freedom in those areas. However, about these basic beliefs, we must agree to walk together. In all our beliefs, show the charity that acts with love and kindness. We believe that it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance (Romans 2: 4), and so, while maintaining a standard for the Christian life, we do it with love and grace offered to our fellow men.
The Trinity
It is the testimony of both the Old and New Testaments that God is One and Triune. The biblical revelation testifies that there is only one God and that He exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(a) God the Father is the creator and sustainer of all things, and He created the universe in love. He created man in his own image for communion and called man back to himself through Christ after the rebellion and the fall of man.
(b) The Son - Jesus Christ is eternally God. He was together with the Father and the Holy Spirit from the beginning, and through Him all things were made. For the redemption of man, He left heaven and became incarnate by the Holy Spirit through the virgin Mary; Hereafter, He is forever a Christ with two natures - God and man - in one person.
(c) The Holy Spirit is God, the Lord and giver of life, who was active in the Old Testament and given to the Church in fullness at Pentecost. He empowers saints to serve and testify, cleanses man from the old nature and conforms us to the image of Christ. Baptism in the Holy Spirit, subsequent to conversion, releases the fullness of the Spirit and is evidenced by the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The scriptures (the Bible)
We affirm that the Bible, which contains the Old and New Testaments, is the only infallible and inspired Word of God, and that its authority is final, final and eternal. It cannot be added, subtracted or replaced in any aspect. The Bible is the source of all doctrine, instruction, correction and reprobation. It contains everything that is needed for guidance in godliness and practical Christian behavior.
The Atonement
The vicarious death of Christ on the cross paid the penalty for the sins of the entire world, but its benefits are only applicable to those who receive Jesus as their personal Savior. Healing - body, soul and spirit - and all of God's provisions for His saints, are foreseen in the atonement, but these must be appropriate.
Salvation
The Word of God clearly states that salvation is a free gift from God, based on the merits of the death of His Son, and is appropriate by faith. Salvation is accomplished through personal repentance, belief in the Lord Jesus (justification) and personal acceptance of Him in one's life as Lord and Savior (regeneration). The new life in Christ includes the privileges of adoption and inheritance in the kingdom of the beloved Son of God. Salvation is an act of free will in response to God's personal love for humanity. It is predestined only in the sense that God, through His omniscience, knew in advance those who would choose him. It is certain in the eternal and immutable commitment of God that he does not lie and is forever the same. Salvation must produce an active lifestyle of loving obedience and service to Jesus Christ our Savior.
Christian life
We believe that the Scriptures describe the life of the saint in this world to be one of balance between what is imputed to us as Christians and what is imparted to us according to our faith and maturity. Therefore, God's provision for His children is total, and the promises are final and forever. The defects of the individual and the Church are due to the progressive sanctification of the saints. The Christian life is full of trials, trials and wars against a spiritual enemy. For those who remain in Christ until his death or His return, the promises of eternal blessing in the presence of God are assured. To remain faithful through all the circumstances of life requires the dependence of the Holy Spirit and the will to die to personal desires and passions.
Church
The goal of the Church is to make disciples of all nations and present the saints in Christ. The five-fold ministry of Ephesians 4 governs the Church, the offices of elders and deacons, as well as other offices mentioned in the Scriptures. Church policy is a balance between the congregation and the authority of the elders, emphasizing the final authority of Church leadership. It is essential for the life of the Church that biblical patterns of discipline are practiced and that the supervision of the discipline of the Church, individual and corporate, be exercised by the direction of the Church.
Baptism and the Lord's Supper
The Word of God commands the Church two perpetual ordinances of the Lord Jesus Christ. The first, baptism, is the outward sign of what God has already done in the life of the individual and is a testimony of all that the person now belongs to Jesus. It is the identification with Jesus and is done in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Lord's Supper is a commemoration of the Lord's death and is done in memory of Him until He returns; It is a sign of our participation in Him. Both institutions are restricted to those who are believers.
Eschatology
We affirm the second bodily, personal coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the saints, the millennium and the final judgment. The final judgment will determine the eternal status of both saints and unbelievers, determined by their relationship with Jesus Christ. We affirm with the Bible the final state of the new heavens and the new earth.
Biblical marriage
We believe:
(a) the term "marriage" has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God that is the union of a man and a woman in a unique and exclusive covenant as defined in the Bible ("Biblical Marriage").
(b) that as God our Creator established marriage as a sacred institution between a man and a woman, the idea that marriage is an alliance between only one man and one woman has been the biblical definition of marriage for all human history .
(c) Biblical marriage is the only definition of marriage that God recognizes or accepts. (Genesis 2: 22-24, Matthew 19: 4-6, 1 Timothy 3:12, Ephesians 5: 22-28)
(d) that God creates in a wonderful and immutable way each person as a man or woman. These two distinct and complementary genres together reflect the image and nature of God. The rejection of biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. (Genesis 1: 26,27, Psalm 139: 13-16)
